Using ClipGuru

Set Conversion

ClipGuru version 2 introduces improved clip storage. All clip information is now contained in a single SQL database, which is dynamically updated upon any approved change in clip data content and provides for additional content such as support for clips in Rich Text format, longer URL's in the 'source' data content and separate 'Note' content. If you wish to include clip content from your ClipGuru version 1 database, you may 'Import' it to version 2 using a conversion option.

Set conversion is a feature of converting clip sets from previous versions of ClipGuru to be compatible with the ClipGuru version 2 data format.

Set conversion is selected from the 'File' menu via 'Convert Old Format ClipGuru Set'. You will then be shown a File requester menu of the sets available for conversion. Sets may be converted/imported one at a time or in groups. You may select and convert a single or multiple sets from the list of available sets. Each set converted/imported will appear as a set in the version 2 set list.

Set Names in ClipGuru must be unique. If you have sets in the ClipGuru version 1 database you know you will want to convert/import into Version 2, please convert them, or at least be sure not to create any 'new' sets with the same name as sets you may later wish to convert. For example, you will probably want to convert/import your ClipGuru version 1 'master' set, 'clips' into the new database right away, plus any other sets which contain data you wish to access from ClipGuru version 2. Note: The default set for version 2 is no longer 'clips', it is now 'cg_clips'. While any set may be made the 'default' for clip captures and normal use, by simply selecting and using it, the set 'cg_clips' may not be deleted from the ClipGuru database.

(Images captured from Windows Vista. Your display may look slightly different.)

While a set is being converted, you should notice a green 'Importing >' progress indicator in the buttons area. The conversion could take from a few seconds to several minutes for very large and/or multiple sets of clips. It is somewhat dependent on your computer as well as the size of the database. We have converted 375 MB databases consisting of a large number of images and text in under 90 seconds.

After conversion, a set is available for use in ClipGuru via sets tab selection, similar to what you're used to today. Since set names are unique in the ClipGuru version 2 database, a set may only be converted one time and should be converted before any new set is created with the same name. If you have created a set in version 2 with the same name as one you later decide to convert, you may either 'Delete" that set in the version 2 database (after you move the clips to a different/new set, if you wish to retain them) and then do the conversion OR if you're familiar with renaming 'windows' files, you can go into the ClipGuru home directory and rename the .dbt file for the version 1 set you wish to import to a new name (it must still be a .dbt extension) and convert the renamed file/set using version 2.

Following conversion, the last converted set is opened in the main ClipGuru sets panel and all converted sets are available via selection in the 'sets' tab.

Note - ClipGuru version 2 can not access sets in the old database except to convert them to the new data format.
